FlyCAD

How to create a text

Thanks to FlyCad software you can create new textstyles, marking the outlines and/or the filling of a word or sentence, curved texts and more.
To do this you can use all types of TTF formats, from Windows or from other sources.

Properties Text FlyCad

To write a text you need to use the SingleLine Text function, which is just below Sketch always selecting the magic wand icon.

A new text will appear with a default name, SText# (where # stands for a progressive number).

Selecting the text node you can see its properties in the “Feature properties” box, which is below the job tree.

  • The first property allows for enabling/disabling the selected object by clicking either on TRUE or FALSE. Once disabled, the object disappears from the CAD drawing place but it will be saved in the job tree and it could be used in a second time.

  • The second property locks/unlocks the object (to modify a locked object you must unlock it). Once you lock an object, it will be always visible on the CAD drawing plan but it could not be selected and all actions will not interfere with its position nor with its characteristics.

  • The third property allows for changing the color of the displayed objects.

To modify a text you just have to select its node in the jobs’ tree and click on “Feature Properties”.

Once selected your text from the CAD plan you can modify the “Entity Properties”, that is to say you can:

  • Modify the text content writing what you want

  • Modify the “Dynamic” property, which includes in turn 5 modalities

  1. NO if you want the text to be fixed

  2. INPUT by REMOTE allows the importation of texts by remote

  3. INPUT by KEYBOARD allows for changing the text to mark every when you start marking. You will be able to change it at every end of working cycle.

  4. INPUT by TEXTFILE permits the importation of a specific text file specially-made to be marked

  5. INPUT by SINGLETEXTFILE: more dynamic texts in the same drawing are linked to the same text file

N.B.
Selecting the text in the CAD drawing place and right clicking on it you can access and modify the text properties as well.

You can personalize every text creating a new text style to which you have to associate the Windows font you prefer.
You can access to the settings relating to the text styles by selecting on the toolbar “Format” and clicking on Text Styles.

In the left side you can see the available styles, right upper side shows the current style, Font section contains the selected font and the TrueType textbox shows the windows font.
N.B.
The textbox NAME and the TrueType one must be the same if you want to enable the filled text

Select New and insert in the box the new text name:

In this case we have created a new text style and named it TIMES, associating it with the Times New Roman As a result, the Preview node shows this new style we have created.

You can write both single and multiline texts.

Please watch the video of the complete procedure clicking here.

All the default characters of a text style will be marked only in outlines.
If we have a single line font, marking the outlines is the only possible option (for example, the Roman S)

Otherwise, if you want to mark a filled text you need to:

  • Be sure that the font you have chosen is not a single line one (check the settings in Text Styles)

  • Verify that the selected font has the same name for “Name” and “True Type”

  • In “Feature Properties” you can access to “Filling type” which allows you to fill the word or sentence you have written.

Here you can choose which type of filling you prefer:

  1. NONE (no filling)

2.LINE (lines filling)

3.CROSS LINE (Crossed lines filling)

You can also define the filling angle, filling step and, if needed, whether to mark the text outline or not

Of course you can. You can use whatever TTF in Windows.

The importation procedure is really simple:

  • First thing, save your drawing

  • Verify the presence of the font you prefer in Fonts folder in Windows (path: C:\Windows\Fonts\)

  • Select from the FlyCad toolbar “Format” and click on “Text styles”. Be sure that your font is present in the True Type section.

  • Once you are sure, close the window and select Convert TTF to VCF in FlyCad from the “Tools” menu

  • Load the font and save. To use it you will need to restart FlyCad.

Once loaded the font you won’t have any problem in creating the new text style.

N.B.
If the font you want to use is not present in Windows you can download it from then web or elsewhere and follow the same procedure.

To create a curved text select CurveText function which is in the jobs’ tree clicking on the magic wand icon.

A new curved text will appear with a default name, CurveText# (where # stands for a progressive number)

Properties of a curved text
Selecting the curved text node you can access to its properties from “Feature properties” which is below the jobs’ tree.

  • Selecting “True” in Show Curve you will be able to see the structure which makes the text be curved.

Concerning the Text Properties (about text content and the dynamic field) and the Style Properties (text font and its filling) you will get the information you need in this page. These properties are the same both for a normal and for a curved text.

  • In “Geometry” you can personalize the geometric elements, changing for example the ray of the arch, the alignment, the oblique angle or the direction.

You can insert superscript and subscript in every text (single and multiline, curved) using every text style.
